Immuta Detect: Quick Start

Immuta Detect is a tool that monitors your data environment and provides analytic dashboards in the Immuta UI based on your data use. These dashboards offer visualizations of audit events, including user queries and, when classification is enabled, the sensitivity of those queries, data sources, and columns.

Requirements

• Immuta SaaS instance

Prerequisites

• Data platform integration configured in Immuta. Snowflake, Databricks Spark, and Databricks Unity Catalog are supported; however, Databricks Spark and Databricks Unity Catalog cannot be used together:
  • Snowflake integration with the following configuration:
    • Snowflake governance features: This integration type requires Snowflake Enterprise Edition or higher.
    • Native query audit enabled
  • Databricks Spark integration
  • Databricks Unity Catalog integration
    • Native query audit enabled Note that it is enabled by default when configuring the integration.
• Users and data sources have been registered in Immuta
• A user that is comfortable with and has authenticated with the Immuta API

Overview

When fully configured with classification enabled, Immuta Detect uses sensitive data discovery (SDD) (native SDD is recommended) to automatically identify and tag columns that contain sensitive data. Those SDD tags are then used by the Immuta Data Security Framework (Immuta DSF) to classify your data.

After Immuta Detect has run SDD and the Immuta DSF, it may be necessary to adjust the output tags based on your organization's data, security, and compliance needs. Your Immuta representative will work with you during the preview to customize SDD and Immuta DSF to output the desired tags and classification of data sources.

Once those tags reflect your sensitive data correctly, users can start viewing the Detect dashboards to visualize the sensitive data that was accessed on your data platform, details on the users accessing that data, and the policies you have in place protecting that data.
